Gene therapy to treat Age-Related Macula Degeneration (AMD) Go Back

Exciting news out of London this week! An ophthalmologist has preformed a ground breaking procedure aimed at slowing the progression of AMD. By detaching the retina in a very specific point and injecting a substance with modified DNA, it is hoped that this will correct the genetic defect which causes AMD. It should only need to be performed once and because of the very specific location of injection, it won't affect the person in any other way. This was all part of the FOCUS clinical trial by Gyroscope Therapeutics. More will need to be done before the treatment is released and available to the general public, but let's hope this life changing treatment isn't too far away!
