Blepharitis

Blepharitis

Blepharitis is a common eyelid inflammation that sometimes is associated with bacterial eye infection. Symptoms include dry eyes or certain types of skin conditions such as 'acne rosacea'.

Blepharitis usually occurs in two basic forms:

  • Anterior Blepharitis affects the exterior of the eye where the eyelashes are attached.
  • Posterior Blepharitis linked to dysfunction of Meibomian glands within the eyelids that secrete oils to help lubricate the eye.

The most common treatment of Blepharitis is the ongoing regime of eyelid hygiene. Besides a program of eyelid hygiene extreme symptoms can be treated with topical and oral medicine.
