Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis refers to the inflammation of the conjunctiva of the eye, resulting in pink discolouration. The condition can also result in itching or irritation, discharge from the eye and light sensitivity.

The causes of conjunctivitis are varied and include bacterial or viral infection, the presence of a foreign body in the eye or allergies. Conjunctivitis can be highly infectious and as such proper management of the condition is vital. The treatment of conjunctivitis is dependent on the cause, and may involve antibacterial, antihistamine or anti-inflammatory eye drops.
